Finding Healing and Justice In Community

“Every human activity can be put at the service of the divine and of love. We should all exercise our gift to build community.” —Jean Vanier

In these challenging times, it feels more important than ever to build and celebrate community. The work of building real partnerships with our students and peers, and with the communities in which we live and where we serve, is vital in an increasingly divisive world.

How can our yoga practice—in and out of the studio—support us in becoming ever-stronger stewards of community and advocates for justice? How might living and working in conscious community enable us to step more fully into the most powerful possibilities of our practice? How do we connect truly and deeply with others—especially those that might appear different from us—and meet them not as strangers, but as equally worthy members of our larger community? How do we offer yoga that is accessible, inclusive, and effective for all individuals and all communities? And how do we use this individual and collective work to create positive social change?

Join us as we gather to build and strengthen our community, our practice, and our vision. Connect in fellowship with friends, teachers, and colleagues, old and new. Come to the 7th annual Yoga Service Conference, co-presented by the Yoga Service Council and Omega Institute. Throughout this joyous, supportive, community-building weekend, we explore concrete tools we can use to support our common work of sharing yoga service and its many benefits in our lives, our communities, and the world.

You do not need to be a yoga teacher to share these transformative practices with your community and to radically improve lives, including your own. Social workers and health-care providers, school teachers and counselors, yoga and mindfulness teachers, and many others will find the resources, inspiration, and support they need to reflect and build on their work and mission in the world. Together we explore the challenging questions that must be raised if we are to share these powerful practices meaningfully and sustainably with all who might benefit from them.

Choose One of 3 Pre-Conference Intensives: 1) Accessible Yoga, 2) Inclusive Cuing, or 3) Safe and Supportive Touch in Trauma-Informed Yoga. Then, join us for the full Conference to:

  • Discover how your current practice might prepare you to be a community steward
  • Delight in intentional community
  • Experience the power of the healing collective
  • Explore ways to adapt yoga to meet individual and community needs
  • Learn embodied practices to cultivate resilience and well-being
  • Deepen your understanding of trauma-informed yoga for children and adults
  • Address issues of cultural competency, inclusion, and safety
  • Investigate the influence of implicit bias
  • Learn about research in the field of yoga service and how you might contribute
  • Examine the intersection of yoga and social justice

Choose from breakout workshops designed to teach skills, build capacity, and support personal reflection and growth. Learn from your peers—or share your work—at our new Service Community Network groups. Choose from optional roundtable discussions with Advisors and Board members from the Yoga Service Council. Join us for a Saturday evening community-building party to connect with other conference participants, teachers, and leaders of diverse yoga service organizations from around the world.

Together we will co-create the heartfelt inspiration and strong-minded determination we need to continue making a difference. You return home with a renewed sense of purpose and passion, feeling inspired by and held in a dynamic and growing community.
